ABOUT OUR CHAPTER
|
On July 31, 1978, a new chapter of ABWA was formed by area business women. This new chapter, The Collin County Charter Chapter was sponsored by the Wynnewood Chapter of Dallas, Texas. The Collin County Charter Chapter has donated over $70,000 in scholarships to college bound recipients in Collin County as well as nationally with the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund. Fundraising goals have been met with a variety of projects: sales of Southern Living at Home products, Premiere Jewelry, Party Lite Candles, Fashion Shows, Bake Sales, Craft Sales, Garage Sales and golf tournaments. The Collin County Charter Chapter is involved in the local community in numerous ways: via monetary donations to McKinney ISD's Serenity High, Allen Community Outreach, and Blood Bank Drives . In 1996 Collin County Charter Chapter was selected as a finalist in the Collin County Volunteerism Award program. In 2005 we were a sponsoring chapter of the ABWA National Women's Leadership Conference in Grapevine, Texas. Some members also serve in DACA (Dallas Area Council of ABWA) meetings and functions. The council is a wonderful way to expand our outreach and learn how other chapters in the area are reaching out to fulfill their missions. Nationally, the Collin County Charter Chapter has won the ABWA STAR Award four times, most recently in 2006. The Star Award is the most coveted and prestigious award presented at the ABWA National Conference and is awarded to local chapters who have met stringent requirements. We are extremely proud of our accomplishments. We currently have approximately 30 members from all age groups representing over 20 different businesses, careers, and/or professions. This is a wonderful place to make friends, learn and hone business and life skills. Please come and join us. We'd love to have you. |
